Have your say on plans to stamp out dog fouling

People are being asked to give their views on Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council's plans to get tougher on dog owners who don’t clear up after their dog.

Evidence gained by the council demonstrates that dog fouling in public spaces is a problem across the borough and therefore the council is putting forward plans for a borough-wide Public Spaces Protection Order for dog fouling bringing tougher penalties.

The draft order makes it an offence if people do not clear up after their dog has fouled in a public space and requires they carry with them an appropriate means to pick up their dog poo and put it in a bin after their pet has fouled. If they do not comply they could receive an on the spot fine of £100 or be prosecuted at the Magistrates’ Court.

People can have their say online until Friday 18 September at www.basingstoke.gov.uk/PSPO-dog-fouling
