Kingsclere's Jubilee Grand Parade to be led by Local Racehorse with Rider in the Queen's Colours

Kingsclere's Grand Parade for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee will be led by prize-winning racehorse Side Glance. The magnificent black horse, bred by prestigious Park House Stables based in the village, will walk at the head of the parade with a young rider wearing the Queen's Racing Colours.

Kingsclere will be celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee with a host of events over the long weekend, including the highlight Grand Parade through the village on Saturday 4th at 2pm leading to the Jubilee Party at the Fieldgate Community Centre. The parade is open to all-comers and has a royal and 1950s theme. There will be prizes for the best costumes.

Side Glance won nearly £2 million in prizes in his racing career including wins at Ascot and Epsom races and in the 2013 Group 1 McKinnon Stakes in Melbourne, Australia. He also came in third after the mighty Frankel at Royal Ascot.

Current owner Leanne White isn't able to ride him herself due to an injury, so her stepdaughter Jemima will put on the Queen's racing colours and take the up reins. Jemima learnt to ride on Side Glance from the age of ten and regularly rides and takes care of him. Leanne says that Side Glance loves being the centre of attention and always shows off his best side for photographs. At 16.3 hands high (5ft 7in), he's a sure bet to please the crowds at the parade and the Fieldgate Centre afterwards.

Side Glance now takes part in some local dressage and show jumping after his retirement from racing in 2015. He has impressively switched careers and stayed in good condition, physically and mentally. He was bred by Emma Balding, mother of Andrew Balding, and successfully raced for Sheikh Fahad Al Thani of Qatar.

For more information on the Grand Parade (including entering), the Jubilee Party and other Kingsclere events please see Kingsclere's dedicated Jubilee celebration web page.
